General Guidelines
We’re glad to have you join us! Auditions occur at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters. New members may either audition in the fall or spring, and all returning members only have to audition in the fall.
We ask that you prepare:
- Two brief contrasting excerpts from your instrument’s solo literature that demonstrate your expressive and technical abilities.
- Orchestral excerpts for your instrument, linked here.
Spring 2024 Sign-Ups
Spring 2024 auditions will be held on the same days as open rehearsals: Wednesday, 1/8 from 8:00 – 9:15pm, and Wednesday, 1/15, from 5:00 – 6:00pm and 7:45 – 9:00pm. All auditions will be held at the Fenway Center.
Sign up for an audition slot by clicking the spreadsheet button below. Please also fill out the audition form!
To clarify some points regarding auditions:
- Everyone auditions, new and old members
- Auditions are low-key and low stress
- Auditions are required for acceptance into NUSO. While for large sections like strings acceptance may be likely, for smaller sections where fewer players are typically needed (ie: flutes) acceptance is not guaranteed
- Auditions are needed for seating assignments
- Auditions help Evan determine the appropriate repertoire
Open rehearsal is open to all students, regardless if they have auditioned.
Thank you all for your cooperation and best of luck on your auditions!!
Logistics
Auditions are typically held the Fenway Center (77 St. Stephen St) and Egan Research Center, and will take place in the first few weeks of September. Given the open hall setting, we recommend you take time to warm up before arriving.
